Sanskriti Shrestha blends Asian music traditions with western musical forms like jazz and electronics – an experience in both sound and technique. Watch her intimate concert at Thea and Arves place in Marcus Thrane’s street in Drammen.
Sanskriti Shrestha (1990) is an Oslo-based Nepalese musician who plays Tabla (drums with roots in North Indian Music Tradition, red.anm.). She is a talented and renowned musician who was picked out by jazz king Bugge Wesseltoft for his musical project New Concept of Jazz. Sanskriti composes own music and plays solo concerts and has played with a number of bands, including Avatar, Moksha and Bansal Band.
The East meets the West
Sanskriti comes from a family of professional musicians, and since childhood, has brought the tabloid tradition from its Nepalese and Asian musical background together with western musical forms such as jazz and electronic music. She has been touring Europe, Asia and Australia, and now she is ready for Drammen!
Playing a table involves a very advanced technique where you use your palm and fingers to make sound on the different parts of the drums. Watching Sanskriti play is therefore an experience both in sound and visual.
See and hear a taste of Sanskriti Shrestha’s music, here in jam session with Bugge Wesseltoft during the Melafestivalen in Oslo.
