Description
An artist determined to change the world.
The eccentric, argentinian born artist Matamba, has since releasing his first album “Estilo Dread” in 2008, created an impression worldwide with his alternative sound and style.
The growing up in “the hood” in Bolivia, passing through years in drugs and living on the street, has shaped him into the man he is today. His passion for music, though, started in church, where he created his first, hardcore rock band, K-Rux. In this period he initiated a movement “La Raza” (Race), that has become a cultural movement throughout Bolivia and further on. He filled theatres around the country, not with fans, but with sisters and brothers that collectively becomes part of his cultural movement. Last year he visited Norway for the very first time, and made a strong impact on the audience both in Drammen and Bergen; experiencing this artist LIVE is an opportunity you don’t want to miss out on!
His true calling, as one realizes studying his artistic career, is not his music. He purposefully uses his art to influence on society. Injustice sparks the rebellion in him and is reflected in his lyrics. Recently he completed a campaign with PapelBol (a Bolivian organization committed to raising awareness and educating the youth about recycling and climate change), on the importance of recycling and protecting the earth through youth engagement and empowerment, entitled “Cual es tu papel en la vida?” (What is your role/paper in life?) He is especially dedicated to causes involving children. He was nominated Ambassador of the “Ricky Martin Foundation” in 2008 with the campaign “Browse Protected” to raise awareness and denunciate human trafficking, ensuring security and protection for children and teenagers, and later he worked on a campaign in the fight against bullying.
In Latin-America Matamba is already a multiple prize winning music icon, and has during the last years shared stage with artists like Julian Marley, DMX, Capleton, Sizzla, Rihanna, The Black Eye Peas, Marilyn Manson, Prodigy, Los Cafres, Faith No More and of course with many great latin and afro-caribbean artists like The Wailers, Fidel Nadal, The Skatallites, Nonpalidece, NoTeVaAGustar, Dread Mar – I, Godwana, Calle 13, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and Shakira.
Matamba is this year’s Artist in Residence. Children and teenagers will experience this incredibly exciting artist in schools and institutions through the entire festival.
Matamba is much more than an Artist, he is a movement, and he is an embodiment of dreams and ambition for a better society.
